Amalfi Coast

Most people who visit this area, famous for its rugged cliffs, its winding coastal road, its picturesque towns and its historical significance, miss out. They rarely have time for the attraction which, for our guests, has proved to be the highlight of the whole Amalfi Coast experience: a 3-hour hike just below the clouds (hopefully) called "the pathway of the gods". We want you to feel the Amalfi Coast under your feet, and literally get an overview of the incredible beauty of these 60 miles of coast from Naples in the north to Salerno in the south. So we’ve created an itinerary with hikes, offering alternatives for those preferring not to. Additionally, to see the coast from the sea is simply spectacular. On one trip we even had a guest who cycled through the mountains from Sorrento to Amalfi!!!

Arrival: day Friday
Meeting point: Naples Airport
From NY – Delta/Air France arrives 11.55 (or via Rome day before) From TLV – ElAl/Alitalia arrives 10.45 (also from Rome FCO)
From London Gatwick-BA arrives 11.40
From the airport, we drive straight to Pompeii for a guided tour of this incredible site.
We then head to our hotel (if Friday, to prepare for Shabbat.) Maybe time for a swim!!
Mincha and Ma’ariv will be followed by the Welcome Dinner.

Shabbat
 Coffee and cake-davening- breakfast Short walk into and around Sorrento Mincha Late Shabbat lunch – main meal of the day (seuda III if you're counting) Free time to relax in the lounge, by the pool or in your room Depending on season and Shabbat times, a light supper will be served before or after shabbat ends. After havdala - Saturday night in Sorrento musical, coffee, limoncello.

Sunday
The "pathway of the gods" - a 3 hour medium difficulty hike on top of the cliffs above the Amalfi coastline with some of the ultimate views of the coast. For many this IS the highlight of the whole tour, although so few tourists take the time to do it. We'll picnic at the end of the hike, in the tiny village of Nocelle and then take the local micro-bus down to Positano and visit this most elegant resort. Dinner in our dining room overlooking Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

Monday
Vietri-sul-Mare - we'll stop for an hour or so you can look at the home-town of these world-famous ceramics, and buy them at the best prices anywhere on the coast – we checked!!
Paestum – after lunch at the entrance, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the world's best preserved Greek Temples (yes Greek – from the time when the Greeks colonized Southern Italy) Dinner back in our hotel.

Tuesday
Whole day boat trip to the magical isle of Capri; visit the Villa San Michele of author Axel Munthe, ride the chairlift, enjoy a picnic lunch stroll the villages of Anacapri and Capri, the gardens, free time for the gorgeous shops or a beautiful hike. (If you have read about and wish to visit the blue grotto we will arrange that for you, but our feedback has been that the time can be better spent elsewhere on the island – it's up to you!!).
You now have a choice: to take the ferry to Amalfi (90mins), via Positano, in order to experience the beautiful approaches from the sea, catching a local bus back to the hotel, as the sun sets over the sea OR you can take the return ferry to Sorrento, where you will have time to spend in the town centre before walking or taking a bus/taxi back to the hotel for dinner.

Wednesday
Amalfi Coast drive-leaving our hotel we'll drive most of this gorgeous coast road with its 1000 hairpin bends Amalfi- a short introduction will be followed by free time to stroll around this busy little town, looking at the church and its art (for those who so wish) or browsing in the stores and "living the life". There is also a lovely museum of paper-making at the end of the village which many guests have greatly enjoyed.

For the hikers - we offer a beautiful 2.5hr hike up the Paper Mill valley at the back of Amalfi which brings you out (eventually) to our lunch location. Lunch will be taken in one of our favourite spots, reached for those not hiking up, by bus from Amalfi centre.
Ravello- the bus will then take us to the "high-point" of the coast with its magnificent Villa Cimbrone gardens and views. Dinner back in our hotel.

Thursday
We'll bring you to Naples airport for the following flights:-
AF/Delta to JFK dep 12.50:
BA to London GTW dep 17.15:
Alitalia/ElAl to TLV dep 19.20
For those with the later departure times, we’ll offer a visit to the National Archaeological Museum in Naples where many artifacts from Pompeii are kept.

• flights: we will meet you mid-day in Rome Airport Hilton and return you to Rome Airport on departure day.
• spending money for shopping: we will try to take you to places where your money will buy you more, but we will look after you so well that you will not NEED to spend anything at all!!
• upgrades: deluxe rooms (DLX) and single occupancy are available at an additional price (see booking form).
• insurance: all clients should be aware that while all efforts are made to avoid any problems before during or after your trip, Naomi carries no insurance for your health or luggage. While using the services only of registered suppliers, we recommend that you purchase fully comprehensive travel insurance as Eddie's Travel cannot be held liable for any mishaps during your stay.
• tips: at your discretion, but we recommend $150 per person for the week for drivers, chefs, waiters and chambermaids and we can distribute for you

Important to Know:

• Whether or not you intended to spend time in Rome before your tour, we strongly recommend you stay the night before the tour starts in a hotel by the airport (the Hilton is IN the airport with shuttles to the city), in case your flight is delayed. We cannot wait for late arrivals as it is unfair to other guests. The cost of "catching up" by taxi/plane is MUCH greater than the cost of a night at the airport hotels!!

Deposit, Cancellation Fees & Policy:
A $500 USD Deposit per person must be received at the time of booking in order to confirm your reservation. Payment in full is due 90 days before departure. A minimum number of participants are required to operate tour dates. If a minimum number has not been reached prior to tour departure and the tour is cancelled you will receive a FULL refund.

• 90 days before departure bookings are refundable less a $100 administration fee
• 60-90 days prior to departure: $500 + $100 per passenger
• 30-60 days prior to departure: $1,000 + $100 per passenger
• Less than 30 working days prior to departure: 100% of total - no refund
• We strongly recommend purchasing Travel Insurance.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance encompassing both cancellation and medical insurance is very important and we can not stress that enough. We strongly recommend that our clients are adequately insured when travelling. It is crucial to purchase the travel insurance within 14 days from the 1st payment that you make for this trip (flights/cruise/tour etc). Your payment is made directly to the insurance company.

We highly recommend the 'cancel for any reason' upgrade option.
