5 TIPS TO LOOK FOR IN A PASSOVER PROGRAM

The old adage “you get what you pay for” applies most pertinently to Passover programs. With so many to choose from, we present 10 tips to help make your decision simpler

Here goes:

 1. COMPANY EXPERIENCE:

Find out how many years the operator has been organizing Pesach programs and the professional backgrounds of the operators.

The real professional operators ensure there are no glitches or excuses because they have a wealth of experience. It is their duty to provide the guest with an inspiring and memorable Chag experience.

Check if they are in it for a “quick buck” or are they are committed to serve the long term needs of the Passover traveling public year after year. There are a lot of rookies out there and experience counts!

Ask for a list of references and testimonials from previous clients especially those with a similar background and demographic to yours.

Ask to see the feedback forms their clients fill out after each year's program. Ask to see a copy of last year's program and see if it suits your family. Are you getting a personal service and package when making the booking or are you dealing with a call centre?

2. HOST EXPERIENCE

Ask how many hotels the operators are managing in the one year. Operators tend to spread themselves very thinly and excellent service is then difficult to maintain. Are the hosts on site during the entire program? Many operators stay at one of their other programs during Passover and leave the running to the hotel management, which may not be up to your standard of service or Kashrut.

3. HOTEL MANAGEMENT:

Check in particular, if the Hotel you are looking at has worked with Passover operators in the past or it is their first experience running a Passover program. The set up and logistics required from a Hotel for Passover are vastly different than operating all year around.

From the Hotel’s perspective they land a big group booking but may have little idea how to accommodate the many Passover requirements and it may simply be over their heads.

4. HOTEL STAFF:

The hotel management and staff should know the program’s every need and requirement. It should not be taken for granted that in Israel particularly the Hotel Staff understand the laws of Kashrut and the laws of Passover in particular. In the USA and Europe too, the staff may not be familiar with the intricacies of Jewish Law

5. TIPS AND EXTRAS:

Does the Passover operator "nickel and dime" you? What is the size of your bill after the program upon checking out? Nasty surprise?

Are tips and taxes included or do you have to pay extra?

Does the program sell the Tours and Tiyulim during Chol hamoed or are they included in the upfront price?

This can leave a bitter taste from your Passover holiday experience.
